My Writing Journey

angelicas writing update

I’m so insecure about my writing that making this blog post scared me a little. But since I’ve opened up about my writing on my Instagram account and some people got excited for it, I thought I’d share this on my blog too! So great people of the blogosphere, I present to you my writing journey.

I was a little kid since I started writing. I had notebooks for the stories I’ve written. Actually, I even wrote a Disney fan fiction starring Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers and other celebrities I was so addicted to before. It was even a series guys. I wrote 3-4 books of it. Of course, I didn’t know it was called fan fiction. After I finished writing them I would give them to my best friend, she would then write feedbacks on the back page. How brilliant and amazing of me, right?

I think I stopped writing fiction when I entered my first year of high school. My English teacher still told me that I write good so my classmates kept asking me if I wanted to be a writer. My answer then?

I obviously didn’t want to be a writer then. I love books but being a writer didn’t appeal to me that much. Maybe I didn’t want to be a writer then because of the scary thought that people would call me weird for aspiring to be one. Maybe it’s because I’m scared that people wouldn’t like my books (if ever I become a writer).

Early 2012 I discovered Wattpad because of some One Diraction fanfics. Being this hardcore directioner then, I tried to write some One Direction fanfics. Thinking about the first story I’ve written in Wattpad makes me cringe right now, to be honest. It was just so bad.

I stopped writing fiction for a while. During my last year in high school, I was this teenaged girl who just wanted to be a writer and write stories her whole life. I enjoyed writing essays (I may be the only person in class who did) so I focused on that writing part more then. I also wrote sonnets. I never knew writing poetry was fun. My first sonnet was inspired by Niall Horan (hahahahaha!!!) the second one was for my parents.

For three years I was like this:

wished-to-be-a-writer

I tried to write other fanfics like a 5 Seconds of Summer fanfic. The first story was horrible again. I stopped writing for a few months and just read loads of books. Summer of 2014 I tried writing a 5SOS fanfic again and I’m pleased to say that it’s better than the first one I’ve written. Maybe it was because I’ve read so many contemporary YA books in the beginning of 2014 that I kind of knew how to write one, even if it’s just a fanfic. I had a blast writing it. It was titled Heartbreak Girls (hehehe) because it has 4 short stories that has sad endings. I was just typing the whole story on my phone but then my memory card twice and the story was in it. I was frustrated and sad that I stopped writing it. I tried to write other stories but I just lost motivation.

I tried to write again last summer but I couldn’t. It was the most horrible writer’s block ever. But now I found the motivation to start writing again! I’m working on this YA fantasy with a little bit (maybe) of sci-fi and dystopia!

I found encouragement online and I really want to share my writing journey with you guys. I’m thinking of posting my writing journey here or in my tumblr. I think it would be easier on tumblr because I can also reblog some writing tips for all my writer friends out there.

I’m really excited about this guys, I can’t even. I post my writing updates on Instagram under the hashtag #AngelicasWritingUpdate.

I think that’s all I want to say for now. Just tell me if you want me to post here or in my tumblr. Thank you if you read because it’s really long haha! See ya!

  1. This is so awesome, Angel, and I can totally relate! I *want* to right, but I’ve basically been in a writing slump for the past two years. A few years ago I published short fanfiction on fanficiton.net (mostly about Percy Jackson and Maximum Ride) and was so proud of all the positive feedback I got. I’m not sure why I stopped!

But yes, the people in this community are SO encouraging. Maybe I’ll manage to finish my book someday. 🙂

  3. I actually started an MS in November and only wrote about half of it. I couldn’t do it after for about four months because I lost all the inspiration but last night, at two am, I wrote an entire 3k chapter and I think I’ll be able to write again. I write on wattpad too! It’s an interesting experience but I haven’t updated in months.
